Caroline Carver (FIP, CIPP/E, CIPM, CIPT)

Caroline is a founder and a ThreeBlackCats’ Principal Consultant. Caroline is a Privacy and Security Risk professional within excess of 15 years related experience in both the public and private sectors. She is an IAPP qualified Fellow of Information Privacy.

Caroline was also a founder of TwoBlackLabs, a specialist New Zealand based privacy consultancy. Launched in 2017, TwoBlackLabs provided a range of consultative services to both commercial and government organisations, specialising in privacy by design, engineering, operations, management and risk disciplines.

Prior to TwoBlackLabs, Caroline most recently worked for two of the big 4, Deloitte and KPMG delivering privacy and security services. Caroline has previously worked at Customs as their Cyber Security Advisor.

Caroline specialises in providing both privacy and data protection consultancy. She is a leading expert in the European Union's General Data Protect Regulation (GDPR).

Caroline holds a 1st class honours, Batchelor’s degree in BSC Computer Software Theory from the University of Bath as well as IAPP’s Certified Privacy Professional Europe (CIPP/E), Certified Information Privacy Manager (CIPM) and Certified Information Privacy Technologist (CIPT) certifications. Caroline also holds the IAPP Fellow in Information Privacy (FIP).

Caroline is OneTrust Fellow certified and is expert certified in all six OneTrust product towers. She is also a qualified PMI and Prince2 project manager. This allows her to not only provide advice on ‘what’ you should do but also ‘how’ you can go about implementing the recommendations in your organisation.

Originating from the UK, Caroline is an adopted Kiwi, having lived in New Zealand since 2004, is a New Zealand Citizen and holds Government clearance.

Mark Carver

Mark is also a founder and ThreeBlackCats’ Principal Consultant.  Mark is a privacy, AI Governance and security specialist with 30 years plus related experience across the various fields, working with both public sector and private, enterprise organisations in both New Zealand and abroad.

He specialises in enterprise and solutions architecture and design, security and privacy by design, service and operational delivery design, privacy information management solutions and privacy strategy & program development.

His depth and breadth of experience in leveraging emerging, disruptive technologies, in particular, cloud-based ‘as a service’ solutions allow him to deliver customer business objectives and real outcome-based results. In addition, he provides customers with practical and meaningful advice on matters related to the protection of personal information and privacy aspects of information security in relation to the New Zealand Privacy Act and other overseas legislation.

Mark was also a founder of TwoBlackLabs a specialist New Zealand based privacy consultancy. Launched in 2017, TwoBlackLabs provided a range of consultative services to both commercial and government organisations, specialising in privacy by design, engineering, operations, management and risk disciplines.

Prior to TwoBlackLabs Mark most recently worked for leading New Zealand security consulting practices, IT service providers and Telecommunication companies. Prior to moving to New Zealand, he ran two UK start-up businesses, both of which were successfully sold.

Mark is OneTrust Fellow and is expert certified in all six OneTrust product towers.

Richard Poole (FIP, AIGP, CIPT, CIPM, CIPP/E)

Richard is a Senior Consultant for ThreeBlackCats. He has worked in the IT industry for over 20 years and his knowledge ranges from entrepreneurs to multinationals based in New Zealand and overseas. Richard has extensive experience conducting privacy impact assessments, maturity assessments, policy & process development, onsite & remote training, and implementing privacy information management systems.

Richard was also a senior consultant with TwoBlackLabs, providing the full range of privacy solutions.

Prior to his consulting work, Richard was Data Protection Officer & Product Lead for ProWorkflow, a ‘Software as a Service’ company based in New Zealand. As a driving force in the journey from garage start up to multi-million-dollar acquisition, Richard brings unique experience and expertise into how to build effective privacy management in a technology-led environment.

Richard holds a Masters in Engineering Science from the University of Oxford in addition to IAPP’s Artificial Intelligence Governance Professional (AIGP), Certified Privacy Professional Europe (CIPP/E), Certified Information Privacy Manager (CIPM) and Certified Information Privacy Technologist (CIPT) certifications. Richard also holds the IAPP Fellow in Information Privacy (FIP).

He is also an experienced cybersecurity specialist; in 2007 he was one of the youngest people to gain Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP) and Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA) certifications whilst working in the public and private sector in the UK. He developed a tailored ISO27001 program for small to medium-sized businesses and has consulted on all aspects of Information Security from architectural design to employee awareness training.

He has a particular interest in the privacy & wider social implications of Artificial Intelligence (AI) & Machine Learning (ML), especially in terms of how they can be used to promote fairness rather than reinforcing existing biases & stereotypes.
